公開シンポジウム「実践におけるCLIL：戦略、課題、イノベーション」（Public Symposium: CLIL in Practice: Strategies, Challenges, and Innovations）

外国語教育研究センターでは2024年度より、選択科目においてCLIL（Content and Language Integrated Learning）シラバスを本格的に導入し、新たな言語教育の実践に取り組んでいる。この取り組みは、現在進行中の大規模なカリキュラム改革とも連動し、多様な背景をもつ学生に対して、専門性と言語運用力の両面からアプローチする教育モデルを模索するものである。
本シンポジウム「実践におけるCLIL：戦略、課題、イノベーション」は、こうした実践の成果を起点に、CLILの可能性や課題を多角的に検討することを目的として企画された。日本のCLIL分野を牽引する著名な研究者を招待講演者として迎え、外国語教育研究センター内の教員に限らず、CLIL実践に関心をもつ学内外の教育関係者を対象とした開かれた場とする。さらに、本シンポジウムでは、こうした研究者を招待するだけでなく、外国語教育研究センターの教員がCLILに関連した自身の取り組みを紹介する機会として、10名によるポスターセッションの実施も予定している。本シンポジウムを通じて、教育の質向上と本学の国際化推進に寄与することを期待している。

Since 2024, the Center for Foreign Language Education and Research has implemented Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL) across elective courses. This groundbreaking initiative has launched new practices in language education, and is tied to ongoing, large-scale curriculum reforms which aim to produce an educational model that is supportive for students of diverse linguistic and disciplinary backgrounds.
In the symposium CLIL in Practice: Strategies, Challenges, and Innovations, we will examine the affordances and limitations of CLIL from multiple perspectives. Two keynote speakers, both leading figures in the field of CLIL in Japan, will share insights and strategies that are shaping language education. In addition, ten faculty members within the center will introduce their own progressive CLIL-related initiatives in a poster session. This event is open to educators inside and outside of the university who are interested in CLIL practices, and we cordially invite all interested parties to explore contemporary issues in CLIL with us. Through this symposium, the center aims to contribute to improving the quality of education and promoting the university's aims for internationalization.

Professor, Department of English Literature, Faculty of Humanities, Sophia University. Specialises in English studies and English education, particularly in relation to CLIL. Publications include Soft CLIL and English Language Teaching: Understanding Japanese Policy, Practice, and Implications (Routledge, 2022) and New Flex English Communication 1 (Editor, Zoshindo, 2022).

カヴァナ・バリー（Barry Kavanagh, Ph.D.） 氏
専門は、言語学CLIL（内容言語統合型学習）およびアカデミック・ライティング。著書に『Assessing AI-based Summarizing and Paraphrasing Tools for a CLIL Intercultural Communication Academic Writing Class』（2022年）、『Enhancing Specialized English Language Education through CLIL』（2023年）などがある。
Associate Professor, Institute for Excellence in Higher Education, Tohoku University. Specialises in linguistics, CLIL, and academic writing. Publications include Assessing AI-based Summarizing and Paraphrasing Tools for a CLIL Intercultural Communication Academic Writing Class (2022) and Enhancing Specialized English Language Education through CLIL (2023).
