This talk offers practical guidance for language practitioners and researchers seeking to publish in international journals focused on applied linguistics and educational technology in foreign and second language learning. Drawing on insights from the editorial team of System, the session will outline what makes a strong submission, how to align a manuscript with the journal’s scope, and common reasons for desk rejection. Participants will gain an understanding of what reviewers and editors look for in terms of originality, theoretical grounding, methodological transparency, and contribution to practice. The session will also offer tips on navigating revisions and responding to feedback effectively. There will be time for questions and discussion.

Jim McKinley(ジム・マッキンリー) 氏
Jim McKinley is Professor of Applied Linguistics in higher education at University College London (Faculty of Education and Society) and Co-Head of Research in the Department of Culture, Communication and Media. Dr. McKinley has taught in higher education in the UK, Japan, Australia, and Uganda, as well as US schools. His research targets implications of globalization for L2 writing, language education, and higher education studies, particularly the teaching-research nexus and English medium instruction. Dr. McKinley is co-author and co-editor of several books on research methods in applied linguistics. He is an Editor-in-Chief of the Journal System, and a co-Editor of the Cambridge Elements series Language Teaching (Cambridge University Press).
