Sep. 1 - Oct. 17, 2014/ Star Quilt Exhibition
★What is a star quilt?
The root of the star quilt can be traced to the patchworks which were learned and brought back by the Lakota girls who had been sent to boarding schools in the East in the late nineteenth century. The term star quilt is derived from the design of the morning star which has an important meaning for Lakota people. In modern days, star quilts have been used as wall hangings or bed covers, also they can be used as a substitute for a buffalo robe to cover one’s shoulder in a commendation ceremony. It is the best gift in the ceremony of “giveaway”.
