Rikkyo Graduate School of Intercultural Communication - About -

  The Rikkyo Graduate School of Intercultural Communication is designed to educate and train communication experts and specialists in four different fields: Intercultural Communication, Environmental Communication, Language and Communication, and Interpreting and Translation.

  In the Intercultural Communication stream, the theories and practices of intercultural communication are studied, including interpersonal communication, organizational communication, as well as communication with developing countries and issues concerning multicultural societies.

  In the Environmental Communication stream, the environment is studied in terms of sustainability. This course does not approach the environment from only a scientific point of view, but also considers various aspects of environmental issues, such as the environment and education, the environment and the media, along with ecocriticism and nature writing.

  In the Language and Communication stream, the most recent theories of language communication, such as related to cross-cultural pragmatics, cognitive linguistics, linguistic anthropology, and cultural semiotics, are studied. This course is designed to help students develop theoretically-grounded academic competence to carry out empirical, or practically-oriented, research activities.

  In the Interpreting and Translation stream, the study of translation and interpreting theories is offered, along with interpreting and translation workshop, Interpreting and translation is considered an intercultural communication endeavor and as such, the study of intercultural communication is a necessary prerequisite to becoming a professional or a researcher in this field.

  Students in the MA program will receive a master's degree in Intercultural Communication Studies upon fulfilling the academic requirements specified, including the submission of a master's thesis, a project report, or a portfolio.

  Doctoral students will receive a Ph.D. (doctor of philosophy) degree in Intercultural Communication Studies upon fulfilling the academic requirements specified.
