Welcome. In this class, students learn many skills. First, students learn communication skills. For example, students practice asking “Follow-Up Questions.” This helps students become good listeners. Second, students learn functions. These are different ways to share ideas. For example, students use “Reasons” and “Examples” to support ideas. All of these skills help students have a great discussion.

One of the best things about this course is how much you will get to communicate with each other in English! The class is very small (about 8 students in one group), so you will have a chance to build good relationships with each other. During the lesson, you will talk in a group of 4 and your friendly classmates will help you have interesting discussions. Many students make their first university friends during discussion class. There is always a friendly atmosphere and everyone is helpful, which makes learning a lot of fun!

The topics in EDC lessons are always interesting! Every week, there is something new to discuss, so students can share their opinions on a wide variety of topics. Every student brings their own opinions to the lessons, but one of the best things about the discussions is how students work together and ask each other questions to develop new ideas. This helps students understand the real meaning of discussion: to think about a topic deeply and to respect different opinions. The topics in EDC lessons are all connected to students' lives, even if they haven't had a chance to discuss them before. By the end of the course, everyone has had a chance to think deeply about a variety of issues, and to share their thoughts in a friendly, but academic environment.
